Can't Wait for Someday

One thing that I've learned in life is we are conditioned to believe that someday, everything will be better.  Unfortunately, we're not conditioned to understand that in order for things to get better, we will most likely have to put in a large amount of blood, sweat, and tears to achieve those dreams of "better."  The result?  A whole lot of entitlement, a whole lot of laziness, and a whole lot of quitting. This is true is every area and career in life, but I definitely see it a lot in regards to fitness and in the entertainment industry.  So many people put off fitness and healthy living because of some upcoming event at which they want to pig out, or maybe they're waiting for the new year, or maybe they just need more money first.  The list of excuses can be endless.  Similar excuses crop up when pursuing a career in film as well. "I don't know the right people." "This is just too hard." "I'm not talented enough."

The problem with excuses is that they're just not helpful.  Maybe you don't know the right people, but focusing on that fact isn't going to help you meet the right ones!  Go out there and network!  You're absolutely right, this IS hard, but who promised you it would be easy?  Start thinking about another way to approach the problem so that you can overcome it. And, do you really believe that the most successful people are always the most talented?  I would argue no. Successful people are usually the hardest working and most determined people, not necessarily the most talented.

When it comes to my writing, I keep making the excuse that I don't have the time because of my busy life with family, coaching, and work.  However, the truth is that I have not made the time or allocated the right resources to my writing, and therefore, I have not done it.  So this weekend I am committing to spend at least an hour on my screenplay.  Please keep me accountable to that!

You see, I can't wait for "Someday." I believe that I have been given a calling and a divine purpose, and I know that if I don't fulfill it, someone else will.  So I've decided to make someday today . . . and every day, until my race is run.  Remember what Paul said, "I've chilled on the couch, I've waited for You, and You never showed up. What?"  No, that's not what he said.  He said, "I've FOUGHT the good fight, I've FINISHED the course, and I have KEPT the faith."  All those are ACTION words!

Who else wants to make "Someday" today?

  1. Jeremy, This is true. Somehow in the back of my mind, I thought that a person should focus on what was important, educate oneself and act on it. But in reality, at every turn, I didn't do at least one of those things. Truth is, all 3 most be present and success in most cases is less about luck and more about definition.
